LIGHT MY FIRE - Ray Manzarek
This is an extraordinary and vividly drawn tale which gives us new insight into the explosive times, the enigmatic lead singer, and the magic circle that was The Doors. Although a good read I couldn't help but feel that Ray was wearing 'rose tinted glasses' while writing the book. Everything just seems too nice.
NO ONE HERE GETS OUT ALIVE - Jerry Hopkins and Danny Sugerman
This book strips bare the facts from the fantasies of Morrison's life and mysterious death in Paris, exposing the myth-maker who was both hailed as a poet of the counter culture and reviled as a corruptor of youth. THE END - Bob Seymore
This is an account of Morrison's last days in Paris. By the time Danny Sugerman was 21 he had an idyllic home, a beautiful girlfriend, the best car in the world, two types of hepatitis, a diseased heart, a $500 a-day heroin habit and only a week to live. He lived.
Although this isn't really a book on The Doors, it does show how Morrison influenced a young Sugerman's creativity. A must read.
